Barnacle

Meet your new desk-mate

Barnacle bobs along at the top of your screen while you work, and lets you know when it needs you. Click it to open its little handheld screen. Feed it, play with it, clean up after it, and tuck it in at night. Look after it and it grows from an egg into a baby, a kid, a teen and an adult, and how you raised it shows in how it turns out.

What it does

• Lives quietly in the menu bar, with no Dock icon
• Grows up over about a week
• Feed, Play, Clean and Sleep, nothing more complicated
• Goes to bed on its own at night, and doesn’t starve while your laptop is closed
• Gentle notifications when it needs something, which you can turn off
• Follows your Mac’s light and dark mode
• No accounts, no ads, no data collected

There’s a swamp kitten hiding in there somewhere.
